Blinn College offers students an immersive study abroad opportunity in Granada, Spain, next summer

Students earn college credit and gain a global perspective during once-in-a-lifetime experience

GranaddaThe Blinn College District invites students to soak up the sights and sounds of Granada, Spain, by participating in a study abroad opportunity taking place May 24, 2025 through June 21, 2025.

Blinn is partnering with Arcos Learning Abroad to offer students an unforgettable chance to learn the Spanish language and immerse themselves in the culture of one of Spain’s most ancient and diverse cities.

“This collaboration enables students to receive college credit and enhance their foreign language skills while being exposed to a vibrant and exciting culture,” Spanish Professor Alex Garza said. “Spain’s rich history comes to life beyond the classroom through this unique learning experience.”

To be eligible for the Granada trip, students must complete or test out of two beginning Spanish courses – Spanish 1411 and 1412 – or speak at an intermediate level. During the study abroad experience, students complete two intermediate Spanish courses, Spanish 2311 and 2312, while visiting historic sites, participating in cultural activities, and forging relationships with host families.

Students visit Seville and Cordoba, two of the most historic cities in Europe, spend a day in the Alpujarras region high in the Sierra Nevada Mountains, and walk the beaches of Costa del Sol. They will explore the exotic Alhambra, the ancient palace of the Sultans; enjoy Granada’s historic quarter, “El Albaycin;” and watch authentic Flamenco dancers in the caverns where they have performed for generations. Students stay in pairs with host families, further enhancing language and culture immersion.

“This trip changes your life,” said Rachel Cunningham, who was part of the 2019 study aboard trip. “It will not only further your Spanish, but also your understanding of other cultures.”

To participate, students must submit an application and a $200 non-refundable deposit that will be applied to the full payment by Friday, Feb. 23, 2024. The trip costs $3,820, which includes housing, meals, excursions, and cultural activities. Students are responsible for Blinn course tuition and airfare. Arcos Learning Abroad accepts financial aid, scholarships, and can assist with any necessary paperwork.
